On this page, Social Democrats, Kansas explain what social democracy means to them.

what is it?
In short, it’s moral capitalism
That means it humanizes capitalism in the sense that it applies to everyone, not just the few.
Social Democracy calls for a welfare state that gives citizens of the country the bare minimum to live, plus some. This can be seen in mainstream social democratic reforms, such as healthcare for all and education reforms. We believe that social democracy is only natural for America, based on its current state of affairs.
It is also on its own political spectrum. That means people can be right-leaning social democrats. They are still valid. Right-wing social democracy simply means diet social democracy. In this sense, right-wing social democrats just want less radical reforms and more time to implement them.
It ties into the hierarchy of needs in how a self-actualized society would be able to support itself and innovate. Everyone would have equal potential to succeed. There would be fewer food insecurities or housing concerns. People would be able to focus on being people. That means having families and spending excess money in the economy, which would boost it.

It’s like a shot of medicine. It allows the body to grow and heal. Just like a shot, you may need a booster or need to get it repeatedly, like the flu shot, but it’s better than the alternative.
To conclude, Social Democracy is only natural in America’s progression. This will happen as more and more people become disillusioned with mainstream identity politics or look for a moderate approach to politics. It’s like a shot of medicine that society needs to self-actualize and prosper.
What is it not?
Social democracy is NOT Communism or national socialism. These are the opposing forces regarding Social Democracy. All seek to replace the system, instead of reforming it. Those two schools of thought are further Social Democracy, with Social Democracy being the middle ground.
