The Constitution of the United States serves to protect democracy and promote democratic principles worldwide. It is the document that elected officials swear to uphold and respect. However, the GOP has dismissed the Constitution.
The GOP has ignored it by sending federal agents into blue cities and labeling protests as insurrection. Meanwhile, the GOP itself provoked an insurrection on January 6th at the Capitol in an attempt to forcibly overturn the election of Joe Biden. Trump himself encouraged his MAGA followers to do this, saying, “We will stop the steal.”
Ironically, the only thing that can save us now is the Constitution and its protections. A president can only serve two terms, totaling eight years, meaning Trump’s time in office is limited.
This is established by the 22nd Amendment.
What do we do now?
We protest the GOP and use the rights given to us under the Constitution—for example, the right to peaceful assembly and the right to petition the government for redress of grievances.
