Leadership Means Accountability: Owning My Past, Leading with Purpose

By Aaron

Over the course of my political service, I have worked diligently to advance legislation focused on economic opportunity, government transparency, and policies that strengthen the lives of millions of my fellow Kansans. I remain proud of that work and confident that it has made a meaningful difference for the people I represent. In recent years, much of the public conversation surrounding me has centered not on policy, but on allegations and events from my past. I believe voters deserve clarity, and I want to address these matters directly and responsibly.

First, regarding actions from my early adolescence: At 12, I behaved in a way that was inappropriate and wrong. I hurt someone, and I regret it deeply. At that age, I lacked maturity and judgment. I have acknowledged that wrongdoing and apologized. It remains the single worst mistake of my life. I cannot change the past, but I have taken responsibility for it and have worked to grow from it.

Second, there have been various allegations raised in the political arena, including claims related to DUI, domestic disputes, abuse, and stalking. There is a difference between a childhood mistake I admitted and adult allegations I deny. I was never convicted of driving under the influence. A family dispute involving my brother, which was deeply personal and emotional at the time, has long since been resolved, and we maintain a positive relationship today.

Regarding accusations of abuse and stalking: I categorically deny ever physically harming anyone. In one case, no police report was filed at the time of the alleged incident, and in another, a temporary protection order was ultimately dismissed due to lack of evidence by agreement of counsel. While allegations can generate headlines, outcomes matter. I respect the legal process and stand by the facts.

I understand that public service invites scrutiny. That scrutiny is part of leadership. What concerns me, however, is when political discourse shifts away from policy differences and toward personal destruction. Kansans deserve debates about jobs, economic growth, transparency in government, and the direction of our state, not cycles of accusation and retaliation.

My record reflects consistent focus on economic reform and transparency measures designed to serve everyday citizens. That work remains my priority. I am committed to continuing to fight for policies that expand opportunity, strengthen families, and ensure accountability in government.

Leadership is not about claiming perfection. It is about accepting responsibility, learning from mistakes, and dedicating yourself to serving others with integrity and determination. That is what I strive to do every day. In my early twenties, I sought counseling to better understand my behavior and ensure I would never repeat those mistakes. That experience forced me to confront my own immaturity and shaped how seriously I take responsibility in every part of my life.

Whenever I have run for office, I have asked voters to judge me not solely on moments from my past, but by the totality of my growth, my record, and my continued commitment to improving the lives of the people I have represented.  My focus remains forward, on policy, on progress, and on Kansas.
